YOUR HELP IS NEEDED FOR THE MOST INNOVATIVE AND SUSTAINABLE PROJECT IN MASSACHUSETTS
The U.S. Department of Energy has given us this opportunity to show the world how we can advance affordable and sustainable housing, but we cannot do it without your support! We have task of raising over $500,000 to make this once in a lifetime possibility a reality. Your contribution will not only advance public higher education and alternative energy solutions, it will give us the chance to enlighten masses that will enter our home and leave knowing that change is possible.

In addition to web and media exposure, another exciting opportunity for sponsors of Team Massachusetts has become available. Thanks to the City of Boston, the team will be constructing, testing, and exhibiting the 4D Home in the Marine Industrial park in Boston's Innovation District this summer. All sponsors of Team Massachusetts will have the opportunity for signage at the Boston Build Site, gaining exposure not only to energy industry professionals, educators and students from all over New England, and also the many tourists coming from the nearby cruise terminal.

Sponsorship details can be downloaded here: sponsorship_details.pdf (PDF 217KB). If you don't have a PDF reader, please download it here.

Art & Interiors

Much of what makes a house a home is what’s inside. Team Massachusetts has some unique New England inspired work that you will not find in any other Solar Decathlon home, as well as the every conveniences in appliances.
Art
ART
The primary furniture including the dining room table, chairs, side tables and work spaces in the 4D Home, have been designed and fabricated exclusively by student team members. The 4D Home acts as a living gallery as the décor and house wares in the 4D Home will be hand-crafted pieces by MassArt students. From wall art to ceramic wares, the collection is a celebration of multiple forms of art making.
Interiors
Interiors
The interior is designed to create an open flow between the dining room, kitchen and living room and maintain privacy between the 2 bedrooms and full bath. A central work space acts as buffer between the kitchen and bath room, maintaining partial privacy from the living and dining rooms. The connection between the main living spaces encourages the family to interact and spend time together. Despite the home’s small foot print, an abundance of storage for the family has been provided in the central partitions and in the combined laundry and mechanical room.

Adaptability
Adaptability
The temporary and long term spatial needs of a family change over time. To accommodate this, the interior spaces of the 4D Home can be reconfigured to expand the living and dining rooms using the movable wall system. This flexibility allows the compact house to comfortably host larger family gatherings.

Appliances
Appliances
Innovative, efficient, and simple to use; describes the home’s electrical devices. The ductless range hood filters grease odors and smoke without adding an additional penetration in the envelope. The Whirlpool refrigerator uses only $42 of electricity per year, less than a 60W light bulb. All of the home’s lights are compact fluorescents (CFLs) or light emitting diodes (LEDs), both of which use 1/6th the energy of conventional light bulbs. Even our stand-by water heater—necessary to heat water during cloudy days and at night—uses heat pump technology to pull heat out of the air and transfer it to the hot water tank. All of the appliances are EnergyStar rated, meeting or exceed energy efficiency standards set by the Department of Energy.
